ABOUT ZANE

Zane had a natural magnetism and created community in whatever he did. He was infectiously positive and had a huge, kind heart. He was a leader, an initiator, and a visionary. He deeply loved his family, his friends, and his outdoor playground. There will be a deep hole in the hearts of his family, his parents Dani Sarbit and Ross Halperin, his siblings, Ava and Talia, his grandparents Gayl and Jay Sarbit and Brenda and Mitchell Halperin, his two ‘shihtz’ Magoo and Rusty and his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many many friends.

Zane was born and raised in Kelowna, BC. He embraced everything the Okanagan has to offer. In the summer, he spent every free moment on Lake Okanagan from early morning water skiing to mid-day paddles to sailing and windsurfing at sunset. He would be the first out of bed to get in a solid mountain bike ride (often pulling less eager participants with him!). In the winter, he loved spending his weekends at Big White searching for fresh powder, finding first tracks, and skiing all day long until it was time for shinny hockey with his sisters, friends, or strangers and then a Jets’ game. You could always find Zane adventuring in the mountains, hiking, or biking with family and friends. There were always frisbees and skipping rocks in his car. He loved sharing his passion for the outdoors with others. He was a beloved coach at COSA (Central Okanagan Sailing Association) and the first to volunteer to take his young cousins around the ski hill. Zane touched kids and adults alike, many adults considering him a friend. He had a quiet way of encouraging everyone to be their best.

After graduating from Okanagan Mission Secondary School, Zane pursued his passion at Mount Royal University, working towards a Bachelor in Health and Physical Education with a major in Outdoor Leadership and Ecotourism and a minor in finance. His ETOL friends became an extended part of his family.

The ZHLF held at the Central Okanagan Foundation, will be stewarded and endowed to support youth, young adult development, and outdoor adventure.  Zane was one of the most adventurous souls, always going for an adventure, finding a new challenge to surpass and conquer. He could make the harshest of conditions feel like a breeze

Through Zane's memory and everlasting legacy we hope to give others opportunities to rise to challenges just as he did. Bringing others to experience the smiles and joy he brought everywhere he went.
